THIRD INTERNATIONAL SUMMER TRAINING IN EXPERIMENTAL BIOTECHNOLOGY - 2012

PROGRAM FOCUS: QUANTITATIVE SYSTEMS BIOTECHNOLOGY

With the advent of novel technological developments in life sciences, Systems Biotechnology has achieved significance as a holistic area of study towards understanding the biological systems. The intrinsic complexity and inter-relations of biological systems with its physical and chemical environment pose challenges in understanding the actual functional molecular mechanisms across plant, animal and microbes. However, the fact that all living species share multiple common features at cellular and molecular level underlines the need for an integrated approach for the study of these biological systems. Advanced and quantitatively significant approaches and methods spanning the areas of genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, physiology and biological chemistry gain relevance in this context and the proposed training is planned on those lines and is first of its kind in India. Participants are expected to develop hands-on experience on various methodologies along with strong skills in scientific project design, development and communication. National and International experts will be available on a continuous basis to teach, train and share the novel ideas of experimental and quantive Systems biotechnology.

This workshop includes intensive programs on techniques in Quantitative Systems Biotechnology (QSB) that supports fundamental bio-engineering research in order to build the understanding of cellular and bio-molecular processes (in vivo, in vitro, ex vivo). The participant will learn fundamental processes of molecular and cellular biology along with an exposure to biosimilars, protein modification, advanced bioinformatics etc. Knowledge of the basic processes in the evolution of biological systems relies on the understanding of how biomolecules in cells interact and how these interactions in dynamic state lead to changes in structure and function. This training will integrate the learning experience from laptop to benchtop.
